The Great Ovechkin, The Great D.C., Go Caps!!

Why D.C. you ask?  After all, it is a district rather than a state(only 68 sq. miles).  Having grown up on the east coast, I never really had the opportunity to venture to the DMV region.  For most of us, D.C. is usually once a lifetime family vacation to see our nation's landmarks and government history.

After living here for an extended time, I will provide you with 5 good reasons to move/enjoy DC.

  • Geographically accessible D.C.

    • While living in D.C., you are just a stone's throw away from Virginia and Maryland. So while enjoying the D.C. city itself, you can always adventure out to Shenandoah National Forest(Virginia), visit Rock Creek Park in the D.C., or take a quick train ride to Baltimore, Maryland(under 1 hour).

  • Historical landmarks

    • In D.C., there are tons of historical landmarks you can see just walking down any neighborhood. First and foremost, is the triple attraction of the National Lawn, Washington Monument, and Lincoln Memorial: all in walking distance. In the immediate vicinity, there are numerous museums you can visit as well such as the National Art Gallery or the Native American Museum. If you head up more into the middle of the city, you can venture to Logan Circle to see the Embassy Row.  Or if you are more into food and shopping, head to Georgetown to visit the quaint shops and try some of their delicious restaurants.

  • Passionate Sports Town

    • DC is home to 8 major teams.  These include: Nationals(MLB), Washington Commanders( NFL), Capitals (NHL), D.C. United (MLS), Wizards (NBA), Spirits (NWSL), and the Mystics (WNBA).  So there is a sport for everyone to follow and cheer.  Having watched Sydney Crosby play in Pittsburgh, I was utterly impressed watching the Great Alexander Ovechkin and his chase to beat Gretzky all-time goal scoring record.

  • Thriving Food Industry

    • Even though COVID-19 has struck its nasty bite to much of the food industry, restaurants in DC are fighting and still putting out great food.  One of my favorite places I have visited is “Immigrant Food”.  The concept and dishes were well thought out and made with care.  Also, you eat there for a quick bite or have some mimosas catching up with old classmates/friends.(https://immigrantfood.com)

  • Center-point for many sectors

    • Having DC be the capital for our nation, it is the center-point for many industries.  DC brings many prospective students and graduates who wish to participate in government decision-making, intelligence, law, military, non-profit sectors and the list still can go on.  Living here, you truly feel at the Mecca of many current events and decision making.  You just have to be open to put yourself out there and participate.
